How To Play

Order of Obstacles

There is no specific order in which each obstacle in the Dog Agility Kit should be set up. Set the obstacles up to fit your garden or space available and also in a manner which you think would be best for your dog.

No leads are allowed when negotiating the obstacles except during training.

As your dog becomes more skilled at manoevering the obstacles, you can vary the order of set up to make it more challenging. In agility competitions, no course is ever set up the same.

Penalties/faults

Penalties can be used for missed obstacles when more than one dog is playing against each other for the best time. You can create your own time penalties rules for missed or incorrectly manoevered obstacles, for example, if it takes one of your dogs an average of forty seconds to complete the dog agility course you can add on a five second penalty for each fault.

Winning

You can have an initial goal of just completeing the course. You can then record the time it takes to complete the dog agility course and try to better your best time. Finally, you can compete against other dogs for best time.

How to use the obstacles contained in your Kyjen Dog Agility Starter Kit:

Dog agility high jump The height will vary according to your dogs shoulder height. Start low and adjust the height according to your dogs success and ability. You can mark your dogs highest jumps with a marker or tape.
Dog agility pause box This tests your dog's ability to be under control at any time, even when excited. Your dog must be fully inside the box (if your dog is too big to fit insode completely, being in the centre of the box is sufficient) without moving for five seconds.
Dog agility open tunnel Your dog must simply run through the tunnel at the fastest possible speed
Dog agility weave poles Weave poles test a dogs precision. Your dog must start at one end, enter to the right of the pole with head focused straight ahead and then weave back and forth through each of the poles while hugging the centre line.
NOTE: Of all the obstacles, weave poles are probably the most difficult for dogs to master and requires a lot of practice and patience.
